Internal diseases

In our facility all internal diseases are diagnosed and treated both on in- and outpatient basis. We are one step ahead in endocrine diseases such as diabetes, obesity and thyroid diseases by benefiting from 60 years of experience and knowledge, especially with the institutional guidance provided by the Turkish Diabetes Society. In addition to hypertension, rheumatic diseases, geriatrics and lung diseases, infectious diseases are also within our field of activity. We also provide personalized check-up programs, disease prevention, treatment and vaccination planning along with medical second opinion services.

List of disorders treated in our facility:

  • Type 1 and type 2 diabetes,
  • Gestational diabetes (pregnancy diabetes),
  • Metabolic syndrome,
  • Hypertension (especially endocrine hypertension),
  • Obesity (obesity),
  • Goiter and other thyroid gland diseases,
  • Pituitary gland diseases (ex., prolactin hormone elevations),
  • Cholesterol and triglyceride (blood fats) disorders (dyslipidemia),
  • Osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases,
  • Diseases of the adrenal glands
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome, Hirsutism (excessive hairiness).

Heart diseases can manifest with symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, cold sweat, palpitations, dizziness or fainting. But sometimes heart diseases can lead to sudden death without any preliminary complaints. Cardiovascular diseases are more common in patients who have known cardiovascular risk factors like diabetes, obesity, smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, family heart disease, etc. Even if patients with such risk factors do not have complaints, their check-up is vital for early diagnosis and treatment.

Cardiology also deals with the diagnosis and treatment of congenital, rheumatic, arrhythmia, hypertension and coronary insufficiency diseases.

Non-invasive examinations (ECG, Echocardiography, tread-mill-test, Blood Pressure-Holter, Rhythm-Holter, laboratory tests) are available in the cardiology unit of our hospital. Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of cardiovascular risk factors play a major role in cardiology as well as diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases.

Our hospital has a special and profound experience in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, which is one of the important cardiovascular risk factors. Our Coronary Intensive Care Unit can provide follow-up and treatment of life-threatening cardiovascular disorders for patients who happen to be treated for another reason.

What Skin Problems Are Seen in Diabetes Patients?

Itching, dryness of the skin, diabetic dermopathy (brown spots on the skin of the back of knees), diabetic bullae (blisters that collect body fluids inside), diabetic foot, calluses, wounds, scratches, ingrown nails, nail fungi.

Who should apply to dermatology?

A diabetic patient should have his skin routinely examined at regular intervals. It is very important to admit to a dermatologist in a case of slightest problem which disrupts the integrity of the skin, such as redness and abrasion on the skin. As always early detection of a problem enhances treatment and prevents rapid progression.

Some minor problems like calluses, warts mixed with calluses, nail fungi, candida in the areas such as armpit-groin-under-breast (a non-infectious fungal type) are frequently seen in diabetic patients.

A number of problems can also occur during treatment of diabetes. Subcutaneous deposits or blistering may occur at injection sites.

  • In our sleep clinic, sleep apnea syndrome can be diagnosed using Polysomnography (PSG) test.
  • EMG (Electromyography), which is a dynamic diagnostic method, is performed in the differential diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy and other neuropathies (diabetic patients often present with complaints of hand-foot numbness).
  • EEG (Electroencephalography) examination can be used in the differential diagnosis of epilepsy, changes in consciousness and Fainting related to central nervous system diseases.

Services provided:

  • General anesthesia
  • Local and regional anesthesia
  • General intensive care

What is general anesthesia?

Temporary and medically controlled loss of consciousness with decreased reflex activity without any change in vital functions is called “general anesthesia”. General anesthesia application; by causing loss of consciousness, avoids possibility of patient’s awareness during surgery, eliminates pain, provides comfort to the patient during surgery and facilitates surgical intervention by suppressing reflexes and providing muscle relaxation. Primary purpose of general anesthesia is to provide appropriate conditions for surgery. It is the duty of the anesthesiologist to maintain the health and safety of the patient during surgical procedure.

Anesthesia application; It can be applied by physicians who have specific training in anesthesia and reanimation. Anesthesia technicians, who are trained to assist anesthesiologists throughout the surgery, represent important part of the anesthesia team.

When a regional or local anesthetic is applied, are patients watching the procedure?

It never happens because there is some level of sedation, a sleep-like state that is created using low doses of special medications. Patient under sedation being actually asleep is not affected by any activities in the operating room. Some patients may not want to sleep when the effects of regional anesthesia are well established and they realize that they do not feel pain. Patients can spend time talking to their anesthesiologists during the surgery, if they wish. Since surgical area should be isolated in order to maintain sterility, it is impossible to see the operation area.
